‘Big Boss’ Kamal Haasan sets 100-day mark for makkal party

After a much-anticipated high-profile meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the city on Thursday, actor Kamal Haasan spoke to the national media to make an announcement that his huge fan base was eagerly waiting for. The actor, in no uncertain terms, said he is entering politics in 100 days. The actor also said he would go it alone, and his party would be a ‘makkal’ party.

Not mincing words, Kamal said his will be a people’s party. “I cannot deliver if I don’t have the support of the people. He also denied that he was delaying taking the plunge. “I’m not a novice, but my political apprenticeship will end soon. I’m not delaying it. I was waiting for the right moment.
We have been working for the state for the past 30-odd years.
My fans have been engaged in social service without any payment or any expectations even though they didn’t have any external funds. It’s too early to talk about my party’s name and manifesto.
I wouldn’t like to talk about my manifesto in a hurry, it’s very small, but I have a lot of dreams.”
On AIADMK: “My differences have been mostly with AIADMK. When my film Vishwaroopam got caught up in political hubris. I was targeted for no reason. Even recently, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said, “Let Kamal enter politics and then talk.” I want to tell him, I’m here.
Trounce me if you want. But don’t fool the people anymore.”
On the present political alliance, Kamal said, “The present situation is a forced marriage, and if there are fresh elections, I will be a part of it.”
At a time when the political circles and people of the state were speculating over the possible entry of Superstar Rajinikanth into politics, the National Award winning actor took the lead and nearly confirmed his plunge into politics.
While his Thursday meeting drew the attention of national leaders, his earlier luncheon with Kerala Chief Minister and senior Left leader Pinarayi Vijayan also had triggered speculation that the actor may join hands with that party.

Not on same page with Rajini, says Kamal

Asked whether his friend and colleague Rajinikanth would join hands with him, Kamal said, “When Rajini and I met four-five weeks ago, we chatted for half an hour. We are not necessarily on the same page, but as a friend, I had to tell him about my intention to enter politics.” On whether he discussed politics with his close friend, he said, “ We didn’t discuss all my plans in detail, but I told him that I am entering politics. We just shook hands and said we will maintain decency. We have agreed to keep it clean and not take pot-shots at each other.” Kamal clarified that his conversation with the Superstar will only be made public after he gets Rajini’s consent. “His is a different approach and mine is a different approach. Rajini speaks softly, it’s probably a tactic. But I will speak out. I will speak out against anyone who does not work in favour of my people- the people of Tamil Nadu.”
