Javadekar’s word to Gautami on NEET upsets BJP state unit
At a time when the BJP state unit is gearing up for a campaign in support of NEET across the state on Friday, Union Human Resource Department Minister Prakash Javadekar has irked saffron leaders in Tamil Nadu by stating that he will consider the plea of actress Gautami, who has sought exemption from NEET for Tamil Nadu students for the next three years.

According to party sources, when all the party cadres are gearing up for the pro- NEET campaign, the Union minister could have avoided speaking about NEET with the actress. However, the demonstration will be held as scheduled on Friday.
H Raja, National Secretary of the BJP, denied differences between the state BJP and the Centre. “The Centre has already made it clear that students have to pass NEET for joining medical courses. I am not aware of what transpired between HRD minister and Gautami.”
Speaking to DTNext, Gautami confirmed that she met Javadekar on Wednesday. “I sought NEET exemption for three years and also urged that a uniform syllabus be implemented across the country,” she said.
Asked why she sought three years’ exemption, she said, “Nothing can be achieved overnight and it will take at least three years to reform the educational system across the country.”
Meanwhile, political critics have observed that the assurance made by Javadekar is an example of BJP’s double standards.
A Marx, a political critic, said, “Whenever issues emerge in the state, BJP plays a double game. It bears testimony to a few state BJP top brass earlier promising exemption from NEET, but the Centre turning its back on it.”
