Stalin warns of linguistic revolution against attempt to allow Navodaya schools

Referring to the recent judgment of the Madurai bench of Madras High Court, ordering the state government to issue no objection certificates to Navodhaya schools in the state in eight weeks, Stalin accused the ruling AIADMK of not effectively presenting its case, mainly the two-language policy of the state, in the court. 

Stating that the act of the Centre to usurp the powers of the state, mainly its duty of deciding the curriculum of elementary education, was against federalism, the DMK working president said. 

He also said the people of Tamil Nadu would not pardon the ruling AIADMK, which had not gone in appeal in a case pertaining to the state’s education policy, while it had got an earlier Madras HC order on farm loan waiver stayed in the Supreme Court on the premise that it was a policy matter. Alleging that the concept of Navodhaya schools would promote the three-language policy, which was against the two-language policy propounded by the DMK and followed in the state since then, the Leader of Opposition accused the AIADMK regime of supporting the BJP government in trying to thrust Hindi through such schools. 

Notably, Stalin’s ally and state Congress leader Su Thirunavukkarasar had asked the government to comply with the HC verdict and not block Navodhaya schools by proposing outmoded ideas like two-language policy. Curiously, both the BJP and Congress were on the same page on the issue, while the regional parties have steadfastly opposed Navodhaya schools by accusing the union government of using them to impose Hindi on rural Tamil Nadu.
