“Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao should immediately convene the Assembly, as it comes under his purview. We have made representation to the Governor in this regard, and expect him to take a call on this within a week’s time. If not, we would take appropriate measures. If need be, we would implead with DMK’s petition, which is under the consideration of the Madras High Court,” he observed. Ramasamy, who levelled corruption charges against the ruling dispensation, cited the assertions of Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam before the latter joined the government.

He added that there are many cases of corruption pending before different courts, while some fall under the purview of the Centre.  “Why can’t this government reign in the corrupt? The primary reason is that it requires the blessings of the Centre for its functioning. And, the State machinery has become the Centre’s yes-man in every aspect. Once a peaceful and tranquil state, it is now embroiled with numerous controversies,” he said. On the frenzy prevailing in Secretariat, the Congress leader stated that the state could not harness the same energy it the disqualification drive on dissident MLAs and in controlling dengue, securing exemption from NEET for its students, and disbursing crop insurance, among other things. “They have bigger things to worry such as saving their skin and remaining in power”, he rued.
