The court passed its order after accepting statements of ministers where they claimed that they met the former general secretary of AIADMK VK Sasikala only to enquire about her health and not to discuss functioning of the government. Petitioner Anazhagan, a resident of Virudhunagar, stated that, on February 22, an AIADMK spokesperson, in his interview to a private television channel said that the state government functioned on Sasikala’s commands from her jail at Parappana Agrahara in Karnataka.Â
On February 28, four ministers, Sengottaiyan, Sellur K Raju, Dindigul C Srinivasan and R Kamaraj met Sasikala. After their return, they said that they discussed with her the government’s functioning. According to the petitioner, since the chief minister did not object to the spokesperson’s statement and the meeting with Sasikala, they had thus violated constitutional provisions, as per which they are not supposed to do so. Hence, Anazhagan prayed that the Chief Ministers and four other Ministers be disqualified. Â
On Wednesday, a detailed affidavit was submitted in the court which stated that Sasikala was their long-time friend and they had gone to meet her only to inquire about her health. No discussions were made on functioning of the government, stated the affidavit. The court accepted the affidavit and disposed the petition.
