Will move no-trust motion if House is convened: DMK

Reiterating that only the Governor has the powers to re-convene the House which was prorogued by the Speaker, Stalin said, “If the chief minister has the courage to prove his majority, he can recommend the Governor to convene the House. If re-convened (like that), the DMK will move no-confidence motion in the House.”

The Leader of Opposition, who has been sidestepping the issue of him not moving the no-confidence motion, had accused the ruling BJP of employing diversionary tactics even on Monday, when he was asked to respond to the saffron party leader’s comments on the issue.

The DMK working president has expressed his readiness to move the no-confidence motion immediately after moving the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Governor to order floor test in the House. On Sunday, the DMK and its allies gave an ultimatum to the Governor to order floor test in a week.

With 89 party MLAs, eight of ally Congress and a lone IUML legislator in his kitty plus 21 AIADMK rebels owing allegiance to TTV Dinakaran, Stalin seems confident of toppling Palaniswami’s government.

The daring statement of Dinakaran that he was ready to pull the plugs on EPS-OPS regime should have further lifted Stalin’s hopes of toppling the unpopular AIADMK regime and facing the electorate.

Stalin has also put to rest speculation about him staking claim for the government in the event of EPS falling short of the majority by asserting that the DMK had never attempted and it would never gain backdoor entry to Fort St George.
