Pro-TTV MLAs downplay Speaker’s notice, say they are yet to receive it

Even as fresh notices were ordered against the 19 dissident MLAs loyal to disavowed deputy general secretary of the ruling party TTV Dinakaran, the respondents downplayed the development and said that they would face the notice.

“State Legislative Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal ordered notices directing the legislators to appear before him on September 14. The pro-TTV MLAs were expected to record their submissions as to why action should not be taken against them regarding their earlier letter to the Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao withdrawing support to EPS,” said an official.

The notices are yet to be served on the legislators since most of whom had moved to a resort in neighbouring Karnataka from a resort in Puducherry on Thursday. The legislators must respond as to why they should not be disqualified for withdrawing support to the Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami under the provisions of the Members of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly (Disqualification of Defection) Rules, 1986.

MLA P Vetrivel (Perambur) who dubbed the notice as invalid told DT Next he and other MLAs were yet to receive a copy of the notice. “We will consider the notice after receiving it. We will consult Dinakaran before deciding our course of action,” he said.
