DMK threatens stir over salary arrears to Puducherry government staff
Demanding to disburse the pending salary to the employees of different government corporations and cooperative institutions forthwith, the DMK, which is extending support to the government, on Friday threatened to organise an agitation if it failed in this regard.
Puducherry
DMK (South) Convener R Siva MLA, in a statement here, said more than 7,000 employees of different corporations and cooperative institutions were yet to get their salary for the last six months to two years.
Alleging that those who appointed them through the “backdoor” after accepting several lakhs of rupees as bribe were still in politics and said most of the institutions were sick because of surplus employees and corruption.
Since, Deepavali is round the corner, the government should disburse the salary arrears of the employees forthwith, failing which, the DMK would mobilise the family members of the employees and organise an agitation against the government, Siva warned.
Meanwhile, members of Pondicherry University Non-teaching Staff Welfare Association on Friday staged a demonstration at the university to press their demands.
They were demanding among other things the immediate implementation of the Seventh pay commission. PUNTSWA president Kaliayperumal in a release here said that the agitation was in response to a call for a nation-wide agitation by Delhi University and College Karmachari Union, New Delhi.
