No money to float party, will back Kamal: Vishal

Vishal’s grassroot level work with fan clubs and groups from several districts has sparked off speculation about the actor’s entry into politics. Speaking to DTNext, Vishal said the state has a leadership vacuum, but he would rather support Kamal Haasan than take the plunge himself.

Vishal admitted that he is tracking the state’s political scenario closely. “It is true that several people have been capitalising on the current scenario in our state. There is a vacuum and a huge void which must be filled. To be honest, the future of Tamil Nadu is in trouble, and if promises made by leaders are not kept, a change is inevitable, he said.

Will he be taking the political plunge? “I must first fulfil my commitment as the General Secretary of the Nadigar Sangam and the President of the Producers’ Council. I got involved in the association because I felt the industry must be free of corruption. Similarly, I keep track of what is happening in politics. I even expressed my anger on the thermocol issue,” he said.

There have also been reports that Vishal is in talks with his team and his fans from several districts, and is working on floating a party similar to Vijayakant’s Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK).

“I have asked my team and fan clubs to get involved only for charity work. Whether they like it or not, I push them to support good causes, and they have been working round the clock. I don’t have the money to float a party as of now. The day I stand in front of a completed Nadigar Sangam building is the day I will take up a new task, a new challenge,” he noted.

With actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan on the verge of announcing his political entry, several actors have voiced their support for the veteran. “Once he announces his political entry, we too will show our support. We are waiting for him to make his decision known,” he said.
