On August 3, V Selvi (15) of Vaiyyampatti and R Rathidevi (15) of Saralapatti in Vaiyyampatti were found dead along the railway tracks at Edaikattanur around 500 m away from their school. The railway police led by the Superintendent of Police Z Annie Vijaya had rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry. However, it is said, there was no breakthrough in the case or any headway in the investigation. Therefore, parents of both the girls had earlier urged the railway IG to instruct the police to speed up investigation.

In the meantime, the railway police which had taken up investigation had reportedly completed the case and declared it as suicide. But the parents were dissatisfied. As they felt there was more to the incident, on Monday, they approached the district collector K Rajamani to recommend for an investigation by the CBI. The parent alleged that there was a blood stain in the school premises earlier but the teachers had reportedly cleaned it and this had raised a doubt about the death of their children. “We definitely need a fair probe. We request the investigation to be taken up by the CBI,” they said.
