Chennai
The Madras High Court has directed the registry to number the petition moved by Nanjil Sampath, AIADMK’s deputy propaganda secretary and TTV Dinakaran’s supporter, seeking to quash an FIR filed against him by the Pallavaram police.
When a mention was made before Justice M S Ramesh in this regard on Thursday, the judge besides directing the bench to number the case also dispensed with the production of the original FIR.
Sampath in his plea has contended that a case has been registered against him on the complaint preferred by one K S Anand claiming himself to the president of Pallavaram town BJP on an averment that he criticised the BJP State President Tamilisai Soundararajan with vulgar words.
Stating that leaders of political parties are not above criticism and in anyway the averments made in the FIR did not make out offences under Sections 354 of the IPC and Section 4 of TN Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, which deals with assault and criminal force.
He further claimed that the police with an intention to tarnish his image and reputation registered a case in violation of all well settled principles of law and CrPC provisions.
