Radhakrishnan inspected the new CEMONC building at Madurai GRH and also visited the construction site of Super Specialty Hospital which is located opposite the new building of GRH. Earlier, Radhakrishnan held a meeting with the Dean and other authorities of Madurai GRH.

On the sidelines of inspection, he told reporters that as the construction work of the super specialty hospital is going on at a slow pace, he has asked the authorities to expedite the process. He also said that the new CEMONC building would be opened to the public from Monday.

He informed that Rs19 crore has been allotted for Madurai GRH to purchase a linear accelerator (medical equipment) and to set up an infertility centre. Six infertility centres would be set up across the state and one would be at Madurai.

He further said that he had held extensive discussion with authorities to control the spread of dengue in and around Madurai. He advised people to keep the stored water covered.

Even government offices are not exempted from storing water in open vessels. To take strict action against the offenders, they had sent 4,000 notices across the state and 300 notices in Madurai.

When asked about the proposed location for AIIMS hospital in Tamil Nadu, he replied that the government is neutral towards the location and a sub-committee has been formed recently to select the site.

No representative from Tamil Nadu is part of the sub-committee and they would recommend the location for setting up AIIMS to Central Government. Only the Central Government would decide the exact location of AIIMS multi-specialty hospital, said Radhakrishnan.
