No break for medical admission; cash payments to be accepted
Day one of the MBBS/BDS counselling, which began here on Thursday, was inaugurated by state Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan at the Government Omandurar Multi Super Speciality Hospital.

After inaugurating the counselling, the Health Secretary said, “Owing to a few holidays that fall over the course of the next few days, students who find it difficult to get demand drafts made, can make their payment in cash to the bank official who will be present throughout the counselling. Post payment, he will hand over a receipt.”
“Candidates must have original certificates or bona fide certificates. If not, they should give a self-declaration in writing to the officials,” he added.
Stating that 13,242 students have been called for the first phase of counselling, Dr Selvaraj, Secretary, Selection Committee, said, “1,209 students have been called for the first day of the general counselling to be held on Friday.”
On Thursday, five students of the 20 called under the Physically Handicapped category were allotted seats to medical colleges. While 58 students applied under the category, 20 were called in for counselling.
