DMK to weigh options
A day after both the factions of the AIADMK merged, DMK working president and Leader of the Opposition MK Stalin wrote to the Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao to direct Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to prove his majority in the House.

Recalling the instance when then the Karnataka Governor had directed the then chief minister of Karnataka BS Yeddyurappa to prove his majority in the House, the DMK working president said, “Any inordinate delay in asking the CM to prove his majority in the instant case will pave the way for continuance of an unconstitutional government and it will destabilise the democratic norms and precedents established in demonstrating the confidence of the House.”
Claiming that it would also give room for the evil practice of horse trading, which occurred when the incumbent Chief Minister proved his majority on an earlier confidence motion, Stalin said, “As Leader of Opposition, I therefore request the Governor to direct Edappadi K Palaniswami to prove his majority in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly immediately.”
Earlier, when reporters drew his attention to chances of convening the Assembly immediately, Stalin said that given the withdrawal of support by 22 MLAs this morning, the Governor should order convening of the Assembly and a floor test. DMK would weigh its options if the Governor did not order so, Stalin noted.
