Improved syllabus for State board can end chaos in medical seats: Association

“If the syllabus is improved, all confusion revolving around medical education will be sorted. It will also pave way for state students to apply to colleges elsewhere under the All India Quota,” said Dr G R Ravindranath, general secretary of the association. The association also landed the state government for its initiative in requesting the Medical Council of India (MCI) for 2600 new seats for students who had passed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. “We request 3000 new seats for the students. Also, as per a Supreme Court order, ‘once a medical qualification granted by an institution has been recognised by the Union Government, there is no need to seek fresh recognition from the MCI as each time admission capacity for the course is increased.’ Therefore, if the MCI is not willing, the Centre can make a decision as it is its responsibility,” he added.

Stating that the ordinance coming out for the year, exempting the state from writing the test, is not a permanent solution, he said that one section of students who passed NEET thought they would get seats through the test. However, the other section blindly believed the government’s promises and failed to prepare, he added.
