I will continue to fight against social injustice: Irom Sharmila
Human Rights activist, Irom Sharmila assured that she would continue her protests against societal problems and for people who are oppressed and marginalised by the caste system.
Madurai
On her arrival to the sub-registrar office at Kodaikanal she met media persons and said that Dhivya Bharathi highlighted the social problem of manual scavenging but was targeted and issued death threats. People of Tamil Nadu should come forward to support her, she said.
She also said that the problem of manual scavenging has its root in caste and untouchability and so they should be eradicated to end the abdominal practice. The change will not take place all of a sudden but will take place automatically and till then the fight against the problem should continue, she noted.
She would be participating in an international conference in September at Bhubaneswar where youth would be present. In the meet, she would lobby to end the system of caste and un-touchability which according to her are slavery systems prevailing in India.
She quoted the example of USA where once slavery was practised and the black people were subjected to racial abuse but the system was fought against and changes were visible. Former President, Barack Obama, came from the community of black people and ruled USA for eight years. Similar changes should be witnessed in India too and for that she would continue to protest, she said.
