The Madras High Court on Thursday dismissed as withdrawn an anticipatory bail moved by a fan of actor Vijay who had been booked for allegedly threatening a woman journalist with sexual assaults after she commented on one of Vijay’s movies released seven years ago.

Based on Dhanya Rajendran’s complaint about the trolling by Vijay fans, the Central Crime Branch police registered cases against Ram Kumar and another person for offences under various IPC sections including criminal intimidation. Fearing arrest, Ram Kumar had moved the High Court.
But when the plea came up for hearing before Justice P N Prakash, the plea was dismissed after the petitioner’s counsel preferred to withdraw it.
Dhanya had criticised a Hindi movie featuring Shah Rukh Khan on Twitter and comparedit with Tamil film Sura starring Vijay. Enraged at this, Vijay’s fans went on a rampage and abused her on social media after which she filed a complaint.
