Days are numbered for EPS govt, say farmers

Farmers associations across the state have been protesting and demanding waiver of farmers’ loans, formation of the Cauvery Management Board, sanction of drought relief, implementation of crop insurance schemes, compensation for dead coconut trees, incentives for cultivation, settlement of dues for sugarcane procurement from private sugar cane mills and clearance of encroachments of water bodies across the state.

They charged that the ruling parties were not paying heed to their pleas ever since they came to power.

“They are more interested in celebrating MGR’s birth Centenary in a grand manner than waiving our loans,” they remarked.

“We have been demanding to declare Cauvery Delta as agricultural protected zone but the Centre with the support of the state has been working to turn the state into a desert,” said PR Pandian, president of the coordination committee of the All Farmers association of Tamil Nadu, among the participants.

He also claimed that there has been a big scam in the state government launched Kudimaramathu project. “We have been insisting for a CBI enquiry which would unravel truth,” Pandian stressed.
