Centre against release of Rajiv Gandhi's assassin
Payas is a Sri Lankan National as admitted by himself and hence the question of claiming that his incarceration is violative of the fundamental rights guaranteed to him under Constitution of India is incorrect.
Chennai
Despite the Tamil Nadu Government passing a resolution in the Assembly in 2014 to release those convicted in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, the state on Wednesday merely submitted its earlier counter affidavit dated December 10, 2012 to the Madras High Court on a plea moved by one of the accused Robert Payas seeking premature release.
When the HCP filed by Robert Payas came up before the division bench comprising Justice A. Selvam and Justice P. Kalaiyarasan, on Wednesday, the counter served on the petitioner’s counsel stated that Payas is a Sri Lankan National as admitted by himself and hence the question of claiming that his incarceration is violative of the fundamental rights guaranteed to him under Constitution of India is incorrect.
