Madurai
After her 16-yearlong fast that she ended in 2016, she had moved to Kodaikanal to marry her British boyfriend Desmond Coutinho. But her move was opposed from locals who claimed that her presence in Kodaikanal might disturb peace atmosphere in the hilly region.
Even the fringe organisations protested against her marriage proposal when she submitted her marriage date to the sub-registrar, Kodaikanal. Despite opposition, Irom Sharmila stood her ground that she would settle in Kodaikanal after marriage.
In the meantime, in a recent press meet at Madurai, she informed that her marriage was scheduled on August 16 in Kodaikanal, but at the eleventh hour, it has been postponed to August 17.
