The NIA, in its supplementary chargesheet filed before the special NIA court at Ernakulam, had stated that IS terrorists had planned an attack on foreigners, especially jews, visiting Vattakanal area in Kodaikanal.

Police sources said that Vattakanal area sees a lot of tourist inflow as it has a variety of star hotels and home stays, usually preferred by the foreigners.

Also, famous tourism points are located close by. Sources said this could be one of the reasons that IS targeted the place.

All vehicles entering Kodaikanal from various entry points are being thoroughly checked and identity cards of the people are also being verified. List of people who had checked into hotels at Vattakanal area are being obtained by the police and their details are being cross checked.
