Stalin’s presence may have caused public unrest, says Salem District Collector
The Salem District Collector has informed the Madras High Court that any omnibus relief without any infringement of fundamental right to DMK’s working president and Leader of Opposition M K Stalin would act as a free ticket to him to enter any part of the State unmindful of public unrest that might prevail and would entitle him to create further breach of law and order.

In a petition filed by DMK’s legal wing secretary R Girirajan, seeking to restrain the state government from preventing or interrupting Stalin’s visit to anywhere in the state to inspect water bodies being desilted by the DMK cadres, the Salem Collector filed his counter on Monday.
The counter stated that desilting of water bodies is consequent to the scheme launched by Tamil Nadu Government for helping deserving persons and ensuring that natural resources are put to best use.
Further alleging that the DMK is trying to hijack the scheme launched by the Government for public welfare, the counter said it is imperative on the Government to take swift actions to prevent perilous incidents posing a threat to the peace prevailing in the State.
Public interest is of paramount importance and none of the political party’s private interest coupled with vested intentions could be encouraged when the same poses a threat to public harmony, the counter by the district collector added.
On July 27, when Stalin was proceeding to inspect the Kacharayanpalayam tank near Konganapuram, desilted by the DMK cadres, he was stopped by the police near Kaniyur toll plaza and detained in a marriage hall.
