Sandalwood seized at Kumari; three arrested
Three persons were arrested for smuggling sandalwood at Kaliyakkavilai in Kanniyakumari district, on Sunday.

The accused were identified as Sundar, Mariadoss and Selvaraj. On Saturday, Sundar and Mariadoss smuggled small pieces of sandalwood logs in a bus to Kerala. When they were travelling in the bus, Forest Officials checked their luggage and found those pieces of sandalwood.
During investigation, the duo revealed that the wooden logs were smuggled from Kalakkad in Tirunelveli district. Based on the information given by them, Forest officials arrested Selvaraj, a wood cutter, who supplied the sandalwood logs to Sundar and Mariadoss.
When Selvaraj was interrogated, he informed the Forest officials that the wooden logs were procured from a private garden at Kalakkad. Following that the trio was handed over to Forest Department officials at Kalakkad and a case was booked against them on Sunday.
Sources said that close to 18 kg of sandalwood logs was seized from the trio and the total value of the logs.
