Heavy showers likely in northern districts of Tamil Nadu

What started as a drizzle around 2 45 pm turned to be a heavy downpour accompanied with mild wind. The hour-long heavy showers threw normal life out of gear. Worse still the traffic on arterial roads like Anna Salai and Poonamallee High Road came to a grinding halt.

Motorists had a tough time as they had to wade through knee deep water as many low-laying roads adjoining the arterial roads were water-logged. Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted more rains in the state for the next two days. Weathermen say that since southwest monsoon has been active over Kerala, there is a new trough running from north coastal Andhra Pradesh to north interior Tamil Nadu across south coastal Andhra Pradesh and it will cause heavy rains.

Speaking to DT Next, S Balachandran, director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC, said, “Conditions are favorable for the northern parts of the state to receive heavy rainfall. However, there is no new low-pressure.”

Weather bloggers too have predicted more downpours.

“It is normal rainfall due to presence of good moisture in the atmosphere leading to convectional thunderstorms.

Further, such condition will last for next two to three days.

There will be heavy rains, but for short duration,” said K Srikanth, a city-based weather blogger.
