Confirming the development, a top health department official said, “We have filed the appeal as the need to take a step was essential to protect the interests of state board students.

It is a complex issue and not a matter of one board versus the other.” It may be recalled that the state, had in June, passed a Government Order, which had an 85 per cent reservation for state board students and 15 per cent for students from other boards as a means of helping its students.

Maintaining that it was against the Constitution, Dr G R Ravindranath, general secretary, Doctors’ Association for Social Equality, said, “We can only give reservation for socially and educational backward communities and not on the basis of boards or syllabi. What the government did was against the Constitution. The government is also holding discussions to get exemption for one year, which is against our policy as we have been demanding a permanent exemption.”
