Collector directed to acquire land for girls’ hostel
The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Thursday directed the Madurai Collector to take steps to acquire land for Annai Sathya Government Hostel for Girl Students.
Madurai
Petitioner Selvagomathy from Madurai, in the petition, had stated that recently around 65 girl students were denied admission at the home because of the lack of space. Many students were from the rural areas and are first generation literates. The main reason for girl students choosing the home is that the home is present close to their school and if they are rejected space in the home their education would get discontinued.
After the education gets discontinued they might either end as child labourers or as victims of child marriage.
So, the court should direct the district administration to get the required land for the home, prayed the petitioner.
During the hearing on thursday, the PP said that at present 1.5 acres of land is close to the home and the Madurai Corporation is ready to give the land. Recording the submission the Court directed the Madurai Collector to take steps to acquire it and construct a building for the girl students home.
