    Murasoli short film to feature Shanmuganathan

    The ensuing ‘Murasoli’ platinum jubilee celebrations continue to spring surprises every passing day. After reported participation of ‘super’ stars, now the buzz is that the platinum jubilee celebrations of DMK mouthpiece ‘Murasoli’ might bring some big players of the party from backstage to dais.

    Popularly called the ‘shadow’ of DMK president, Karunanidhi’s personal assistant K Shanmuganathan is understood to be ‘shooting’ for a documentary to be screened during the celebrations at Kalaivanar Arangam. Also, one of the former secretaries of the five-time CM K Rajamanickam would also feature in the documentary.

    While Stalin’s casting is given, a renowned Kollywood lyricist and one of the leading journalists in the city was also learnt to have evinced interest in featuring in the 25-minute documentary tracing the evolution of Murasoli from a handwritten manuscript in 1942 to a weekly and a daily. DMK has already prepared a 500 plus page souvenir comprising letters of appreciation from several party leaders and prominent personalities.

    The souvenir would also be released during the two-day celebration beginning on August 10. DMK has already split the celebrations in to parts, one involving political leaders who would be hosted at YMCA grounds and another at Kalaivanar Arangam in which Kamal Hassan would be among the speakers. 

    Rajinkanth is understood to have confirmed his participation, but refused to address the audience. The DMK has consciously avoided organizing most of the celebrations at party headquarters Anna Arivalayam to host VIPs who prefer to participate in apolitical events. Notably, Udhayanidhi would make his first major political appearance, proposing the vote of thanks at the Kalaivanar Arangam function in his capacity as the managing director of Murasoli.

    Karunanidhi to miss celebrations

    DMK president M Karunanidhi would miss the ‘Murasoli’ platinum jubilee celebration to be held next week. In his letter explaining the itinerary of the two-day party celebration beginning August 10 to the cadre, DMK working president M K Stalin said, “Though there is no chance of our ailing leader participating in the platinum jubilee celebration of his eldest son, his mind would be revolving around the function.” The DMK president who has not stepped out of his residence since his discharge from the hospital in Dec. 2016.
