Confirm AIIMS site in TN by January 1

Petitioners, Baskar and K K Ramesh, in their petitions, had demanded the Central government to reveal the location where AIIMS would be set up and also demanded them to set up at Madurai as people of all the southern districts would be benefited.

In the previous hearing, the Secretary of State Health Department was directed to submit all the related documents of AIIMS in the court. As directed, the Secretary filed the documents at the court, on Wednesday.

In the counter affidavit, it was mentioned that five places, including Perundhurai, Sengalpattu,Thoppur, Sengipatti and Pudukuttoi, were recommended to Central government for setting up AIIMS in the state and it is up to the Central government to decide the places.

Then the Central government pleader informed the court that a sub-committee to decide the location of setting up of AIIMS at Tamil Nadu was formed on July 12 and the discussion is going on. The judges intervened and asked when will the work be completed.

The special pleader had informed the court that the work would be completed soon. The judges, who were not happy with the reply, had directed the pleader to inform the exact time period for completion of selection work in the court by 2.15 pm in the afternoon.

When the hearings resumed in the afternoon, the special pleader informed the court that the work for selecting the exact location would be completed by two months. Then the judges directed the Central government to complete all the processes associated with selection of location by December 31, 2017, and to declare a good news for people of Tamil Nadu about the location of setting up of AIIMS by January 1.
