    Filmmaker Divya Bharathi complains of threat to life

    Director of ‘Kakkoos’, a documentary film, Divya Bharathi, claimed that she is being threatened by BJP and Puthiya Tamilagam cadre. At a press meet at Madurai, on Monday, she said that she had been receiving threat calls and messages on WhatsApp and Facebook from BJP and Puthiya Tamilagam party cadres. All this began after she was arrested and released on bail.

    After her first documentary film ‘Kakkoos’ she was working on her second documentary film.

    “The subject of the film was ill-treatment of sanitary workers. When I got down to work seriously on the subject, police arrested me. It was then, the threat calls began trickling in, explained Divya.

    She also said that she had launched a police complaint about the harassment from people and the threat calls. “Till now, no case has been registered against the people who have harassed and abused me through threat calls,” she rued.

    Therefore, she requested the state government to file a case against the people who had harassed her. She has also sought protection against those who had made threat calls to her. Members of various social organisations have extended their help to Divya Bharathi. They have also voiced their support to her. Twenty-five-year old Divya hails from Arupukkottai in Virudhunagar district.
