Gang attacks police, flees with accused

The incident happened on Friday evening, when Nangueneri police were about to produce Udayakumar, a former Panchayat president of Marukalkurichi, at the court. The gang had intercepted the policemen in the van and had asked them to free Udayakumar. But they refused and warned them.

Unexpectedly the gang started attacking the policemen with weapons and freed Udayakumar. The policemen had immediately informed the higher officials and a police force was sent to the spot. Two policemen, Karunai Raj and Sathish Kumar, who had sustained injuries, were rushed to Tirunelveli GH. 

Following the incident, police force had been strengthened and they are in search of the gang.
