The incident took place not far away from the district head office of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) where Molotov cocktails were hurled by persons attached to a Hindu outfit last month.

Sivalingam in a complaint lodged with the Rathinapuri police in the city claimed that he is living in his own house at Mesthiri Maran Street in Rathinapuri for 12 years. He also claimed that around 10 pm on Tuesday he parked his car near the AIADMK trade union office in that locality.

“Around 6.30 am on Wednesday I found the vehicle’s windscreens and back door damaged,” he said. He claimed that some unidentified antisocial elements had damaged his vehicle and sought action against those involved in the act.

According to the police, some locals suspected that it could be the act of a mentally ill person who was roaming about that area and damaged a few vehicles the previous day. Fingerprint experts and police sniffer dogs were also pressed into service. Police were also trying to retrieve CCTV footage from the vicinity.
