A battery of Ministers comprising D Jayakumar, SP Velumani, P Thangamani, C Ve Shanmugham and C Vijaya Baskar would impress upon Rajnath Singh in the second round of meeting in this regard. The meeting comes in the wake of senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu’s run-up to the Vice-Presidential polls and the ruling factions’ unassailable support in installing the first BJP President Ramnath Kovind.

The Leader of Opposition and DMK working president MK Stalin in the House had advised the ruling party to make use of the Vice-Presidential polls even as the state has failed to capitalise on the Presidential elections to secure an exemption from NEET.

However, a Minister said, “Yes, there was no cross-voting. The decision to support NDA candidates on both the occasions was taken by the party high-command involving the CM Edappadi K Palaniswami, party leaders and senior ministers. That cannot be weighed in against getting the Bills cleared by the President.” “NEET infringes upon the state’s right in medical education.

We are trying to restore it to safeguard the interests of medical aspirants. Both the Bills are pending with the Centre for some clarifications before getting the Presidential Assent. Our priority is in utilising the seats earmarked for the state in both the government and private medical colleges without affecting the state-board students,” Jayakumar told DTNext.
