Rajini, Kamal invited for Murasoli’s 75th year

Actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan could be among the audience in the platinum jubilee celebrations of the DMK mouthpiece ‘Murasoli’ next month. The party has sent invites to both actors for the two-day event to be held from August 10. Perhaps, it is the first time the Dravidian major has asked movie stars to attend a ‘political’ event.

Reliable sources in the party confirmed it to DT Next that invitations have been sent to the actors for the event, which could be bifurcated and held at Kalaivanar Arangam and Anna Arivalayam so that guests, who would be shy of attending a purely political event at the DMK headquarters, would turn up without inhibition at a neutral venue.

While the cadre would be engaged at Arivalayam, guests from different fields, including the two actors, would be hosted at the Kalaivanar Arangam where the 75th anniversary of the DMK mouthpiece would be celebrated as an apolitical event. If the DMK sources are to be believed, Kamal Haasan might have accepted the invitation and confirmed his participation.

Party insiders, who are confident of superstar’s participation, however, fear that a dilly-dallying Rajinikanth might make a ‘U’ turn at the nick of time to prevent critics from giving a political undertone to his participation or party association to him.

DMK working president MK Stalin on Thursday chose to downplay the invitation to the actors by tersely saying, “You will come to know who all are attending the function in August,” in response to media queries.

Understandably, the very invitation has left tongues wagging as it happens in the backdrop of Kamal ‘hinting’ at making his political debut. The Padma awardee, who whipped up a storm by publicly making controversial political statements, mainly critical of the ruling AIADMK, was invited by Stalin’s go-to guy and Tiruverumbur MLA Mahesh Poyyamozhi.
