The family gave a petition seeking help from the commission. Murugan promised to recommend financial aid for education of Azhagar’s children. The incident happened on July 9 when the deceased Azhagar, a functionary attached to Puratchi Puligal Organisation, had questioned two men, Sadham Hussein and Kalimuthu, about abusing a girl in their locality.Â
The two became hostile to Azhagar and stabbed him during a temple festival. Azhagar, who sustained grievous injuries was admitted to the Madurai GRH, but died on July 12. Following his death, kin of Azhagar, fellow auto drivers and members attached to various Dalit organisations staged road roko in front of Madurai GRH demanding compensation for the family of Azhagar and government job for his wife Nagajothi.Â
As regards the series of murders of Dalit activists in state Vice Chairman, Murugan said that he has not received any complaint. After the new Commission wasÂ
formed two months ago, he had received two murder complaints and had also visited the spots, he added. Â
In the evening, the NCSC carried out an annual review meeting at Virudhunagar district about the crimes against Dalits and the action taken against the people who were associated with them.Â
