People take thermocol to troll Sellur Raju in drainage

People of this Madurai West Constituency, the constituency which had elected Minister Sellur Raju trolled their own representative for a drainage issue in their locality. By carrying thermocol sheets to the Collectorate, they wanted to mimic him for his infamous ‘Thermocol Project’ to prevent evaporation of water in the Vaigai dam. 

The residents of Paravai, with thermocole in their hands, shouted slogans against the Paravai Town Panchayat and Sellur Raju for the step-motherly treatment meted out to their locality. 

They demanded the authorities to immediately construct an alternative drainage channel. A social worker from Paravai, Amuthan, who had led the residents of paravai, said that the drainage canal that was constructed in their locality has constructional flaws. 

Vaigai River flows from West to East  and it shows that the landscape is tilted towards the eastern side whereas the drainage canal in their locality is constructed in such a way that the drainage is made to flow from East to West because of which there is no way out for the drainage. 

As a result, the drainage accumulates and overflows on streets. As it is a residential area, people are at a high risk as deadly diseases such as malaria, typhoid and dengue spread easily. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, they are spending money to clean the drainage canal once in two months. 

If officials continue to remain silent, the residents will break the drainage channel, warned Amuthan. When asked why they had carried thermocol, Amuthan replied, in a sarcastic note, that it was Sellur Raju who made thermocol world famous by his infamous ‘Thermocol Project’ to cover the Vaigai dam. 

The drainage too was constructed without proper idea about land scape by the same set of officials working under Sellur Raju and hence to make officials realise their mistake in constructing drainage canal they had carried the thermocol to the Collectorate, said Amuthan.
