S Easwaran of Thiruvenkadam Nagar in Telungupalayam Pudur near Perur runs a smithy from his residence. His sister’s son NR Balu is also a goldsmith. Udhagamandalam-based Suraaj Jewellery is their common client.

On Monday, Easwaran was on his way to the jeweller with 10 necklaces (880 g).

He got into a share taxi and there were three other men in the car including the driver. Suddenly, the duo threatened Easwaran at knife point and asked him to part with the necklaces, mobile phone, wrist watch, a silver hip chain and cash of Rs 900. He was then dropped near the Kottai Junction to Onnipalayam, Road near Periyanaickenpalayam. The taxi and the occupants fled with the loot.
