BJP leaders said that the programme was launched to familiarise the grass-root level workers and citizens to the various welfare schemes initiated by the Union government.  In the month-long programme, kicked off in the state on July 1, BJP National Secretary P Muralidhar Rao and Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan had earlier met party cadres at the booth level.

Exuding confidence, Tamilisai Soundararajan, state president of BJP unit told DT Next that BJP workers have already stated hitting the ground.

“Around 10,000 members are involved in the programme and we are working at ground level, in which each member will meet people and cover one to three polling booths. Further, booth level committee consisting 10 members are to be formed where our party’s flag will be hoisted in every rural area after gathering considerable number of cadre,” she said.

When asked about party’s growth in the state, she replied in the positive. “We will gradually emerge as a major party,” she hoped. KT Raghavan, state secretary, incharge of media, BJP, also pointed out that the programme is gaining momentum.

“Each cadre is striving hard to make people understand the Centre’s achievement and we are also observing that people in the rural areas are talking more about Centre’s schemes and this will help us rope in new members,” he said.

Meanwhile, political analysts were skeptical about BJP’s growth in the state. Professor A Marx, a political analyst, said, “There is no sign of BJP’s growth so far and people of the state do not seem to have been attracted by the Centre’s policies and schemes.”
