“While 1400 such services have been added in villages recently, efforts are on to identify another 4000 villages to ensure saturation coverage,” officials added.

However, the public-at-large are yet to know of the total 165 state and central government services which these centres offer. Rajathi of Pursaiwalkam said, “I come here only to get community certificates for my children” whereas Kaathamuthu of the same area said, “I have come to get nativity certificate.” An e-seva centre employee said most of the users came to the centre for either ration card updation or Aadhar card services.

Village entrepreneurs with a computer system, printer, scanner and Aadhar approved biometric- device could apply to open an e-seva centre. The agency would provide a user name and password once the local central government representative checks the applicant’s credentials.

“However, staff vacancies could affect system performance,” sources revealed. As against 98 sanctioned posts, 60 posts including that of system analyst (20) and assistant system analyst (29) are vacant according to the agency website. The agency’s aim of SMART (Simple, Moral, Accountable, Responsive and Transparent) services will be possible only when public are aware of what the agency can provide through efficient, glitch-free services.
