Intercity express from Tiruchy extended up to Thiruvananthapuram
The Tiruchy – Tirunelveli Intercity Express was extended up to Thiruvananthapuram and was flagged off by the Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Pon Radhakrishnan at the Tiruchy junction here on Saturday.

The extension of the intercity train was announced three months ago by the Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu during his visit to Tiruchy.
The train commenced its first journey from Tiruchy station at 7.05 am as the timings of the Intercity Express have been changed after the introduction of two rakes. The train will leave Tiruchy Junction at 7.05 am and arrive at Thiruvananthapuram at 3.25 pm the same day.
Simultaneously, Thiruvananthapuram– Tiruchy Intercity Express will leave at Thiruvananthapuram Central at 11.55 am and arrive at Tiruchy at 8.15 pm.
The revised composition of the train will have AC Chair Car 1, Second Class Chair Car 7, General Second Class 8 and Luggage cum Brake Van 2.
Coimbatore-Pollachi train resumes
The train services between Coimbatore and Pollachi resumed on Saturday after a gap of eight years.
BJP National Secretary H Raja flagged off the train, which left the station at 1.35 pm and it will reach Pollchi at 2.45 pm. In return direction, the daily special passenger train will leave Pollachi at 3.05 pm to reach here at 4.15 pm.
Suresh Prabhu had earlier announced that the service would resume, which was suspended to facilitate for conversion of 40 KM metre guage into broad guage in 2009-2010. It was completed at a cost of Rs 340 crore.
