Ayyakannu said that they had refrained from protesting earlier with the hope that their demands would be addressed. But, the demand of waiving off crop loans obtained from nationalised banks is still pending.
“Pressing similar demands and also seeking constitution of Cauvery Management Board (CMB), around 150 farmers from the Cauvery Delta districts accompanied by a few from Ariyalur and Peramabalur districts headed by farmers representative, we are leaving for New Delhi to resume another series of protests,” said Ayyakannu.
Meanwhile, crew members of an upcoming film ‘Thappattam’ donated money to families of four farmers who gave up their lives due to crop failure. Families of the deceased farmers identified as Augustine of Pudukkottai, Mutharasan of Manapparai, Radhakrishnan of Thuraiyur, and Palanisamy of Lalgudi were given a cheque for Rs 25,000 each by actor Durai Sudhakar. The film crew further assured that they would continue to fund the families of deceased farmers with the box office collection of their upcoming movie.
