“An MoU was signed between state and Ministry of Civil Aviation on June 8, 2017, to implement the (RCS)-UDAN scheme. One of the key elements in the scheme is to levy concessional rate of VAT on ATF at one per cent for the RCS routes. A notification to this effect had already been issued by the Commercial Taxes department.

Accordingly, the Bill has been introduced in the Legislative Assembly to replace the notification,” Veeramani said in the statement of objects and reasons of the Bill.

Transport Minister MR Vijayabhaskar, while replying to Congress Legislature Party leader KR Ramasamy’s query on the coverage of historic airfield in Kayathar under RCS, said that a total of 13 places had been identified in the state for RCS. “Kayathar airfield is also part of the identified airports. We’ve already recommended seven places in the first phase of which Hosur, Salem and Neyveli were accorded sanction, and efforts are on to secure sanction for the rest,” the Minister said.
