Saravana stores building sealed
The Saravana Selvarathinam stores at Tirunelveli had been closed immediately based on the orders of Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, on Wednesday.

Petitioner, Sarath Inigo, from Tirunelveli, in his PIL, had stated that Saravana Selvarathinam stores was constructed at Melapalayam in Tirunelveli and was opened on December 23, 2016 but no proper permission had been obtained for the building. No permanent electricity connection had been obtained and there is no setup to empty the drainage water of the building. There are no fire extinguishers and emergency exits and parking facility in the building, the petition mentioned. Following that Judges had directed Tirunelveli Collector to close the building and to seal it by 2.15 pm. Then the Collector was also directed to file a report in a sealed cover.Â
HC takes suo motu petition on increasing barricades
A Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, on Wednesday, took suo motu petition on enormous number of barricades placed in the roads, which are the main reason for road accidents.Â
In the petition, the Judges had noted that from Mattuthavani bus stand in Madurai to Othakadai, there are numerous barricades kept unnecessarily. Also, the are no reflectors on the barricades and hence they form as prime reasons for road accidents in Madurai. Apart from Madurai, similar barricades are found throughout the state without any purpose leading to more accidents, observed the Judges. A notice was sent to Tamil Nadu DGP directing him to file counter affidavit by August 3 and adjourned the case on the same date.Â
