Day after arrest of cop, Chennai postman held in passport racket
A day after arresting head constable (intelligence) attached to Chintadripet police station for being part of a fake passport racket, Central Crime Branch police on Wednesday remanded a postman for colluding with passport agents.
Chennai
Police said that the accused, Dhanasekaran (59) from Thoraipakkam and attached to Head Post Office, Anna Salai, was assigned to deliver Speed Posts in Chintadripet. “He admitted that he delivered passports with fake addresses to agent Ramu alias Ramalingam in the last four months,” said A Devanesan, Assistant Commissioner (Un–Registered Chits & Fake Passport Wing).
While Murugan (49), Head Constable (intelligence), cleared passport applications of agent Ramu without doing the pre-police verification for a commission, Dhanasekaran delivered the passports to Ramu instead visiting the corresponding addresses the post was destined for. The fake passport agent Ramu was arrested a few day ago and based on his confession, Murugan and Dhanasekaran have been remanded.
Now CCB sleuths are gathering evidence about a few men working at passport kendras in Tambaram, Saligramam and Aminjakarai for colluding with agents to clear the passport applications sent through them without much scrutiny.
CCB inspector Vasanthan came across information of Ramu when he busted another fake passport racket that helped Sri Lankans to travel abroad. Based on his alert, cops raided Ramu’s house on Pallappan street and found passports of three men with fake addresses.
In the investigation, Ramu allegedly admitted that he created fake Pan cards, Voter IDs to get passports with wrong addresses. In the last six months, Murugan has cleared nearly 15 such passports with fake addresses in Chintadripet, said CCB police.
