Speaking about the contributions of MGR, he said when CN Annadurai, died in 1969, MGR continued his good work. He used films and songs as a medium for propagating his ideas and principles.

The only leader from Tamil Nadu to get famed in the United Nations was MGR for his nutritious meals scheme. He was the first leader to instruct the party officials to go to the people and work for them. Similarly, former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa too had the same visions and had said that the schemes are for the people and people are not for the schemes.

Palaniswami also asked his party cadres to follow the principles of MGR in their life and added that the key principle of MGR was forgiveness.

Similar ideas were echoed by the Speaker of Tamil Nadu Assembly, P Dhanapal, and Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha, M Thambidurai, in their  addresses.
