Public ransack TASMAC outlets in Tiruchy, Thanjavur
People, especially women, ransacked TASMAC outlets in Tiruchy and Thanjavur after, they attempts to be open them despite the opposition by the residents on Thursday.

It is said, that the residents of Bheema Nagar in Tiruchy gathered near a TASMAC outlet which was scheduled to be opened in their locality at noon. According to sources, the opening of the outlet, Â which was scheduled on June 26, was put on hold, since the public opposed the move.Â
However, on Thursday, people heard that the officials were planning to open the outlet. They gathered in front of the outlet and began ransacking it. On information, a police team led by Assistant Commissioner Srinivasa Perumal rushed to the spot and held talks with the agitating women.Â
Later, they were asked to approach the district collector for a solution. In Thanjavur, the public of Tirucherai village especially the womenfolk were demanding the closure of the TASMAC liquor outlet located on the banks of a five acre tank in the village.Â
It is said that the tipplers used the steps of the tank as a bar and left broken bottle pieces around the tank inconveniencing the public. When the women tried to ransack the shop, officials including Karthikeyan, the Tashildar of Kumbakonam, Venkatesan, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tiruvidaimarudur, rushed to the spot and dispersed the protesting women folk. Â The IMFL outlet remained closed for the day after the protest.
