In a bid to ensure easy availability of sand at nominal rates for construction, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy inaugurated online sale of the commodity at the Secretariat. The facility is also available through a mobile app, officials said.

Responding to MLA Thangam Thennarasu’s plea for more sand availability and subsidy for M sand in the Assembly, EPS said that as of now, 29 quarries were functioning and more would be opened soon.Â
The facility allows consumers to register their need in advance and also prevents sand lorries having to wait in long queues for sand removal, an official release added. The process allows lorries to come to the quarry on a given date for loading sand.Â
Stating that training would be provided to the public, lorry owners and officials and workers employed in sand quarries for three days from June 28, the release said that a hand book had been specially printed for the purpose. Online sand sale would become operational from July 1 and consumers could register their need from that day, the release added.Â
The online platform will have details of lorry owners’ names and whether the lorries are single or multi axle ones. An online receipt will also be issued at the end of sale which can be printed, the release added. EPS handed over the first copy of the handbook to chief secretary Girija Vaidyanathan.
