    Tension grips Thanjavur as O Panneerselvam banner defaced

    Tension gripped parts of in Thanjavur city as the digital banners erected by the AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) cadre for the public meeting scheduled for Wednesday, which would be convened by former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, was found damaged in many places.

    As per the schedule, the AIADMK (PTA) had planned a mega show and a meeting at Thanjavur where the other factions, more than 10 caste outfits, were scheduled to merge with the AIADMK (PTA). Therefore, supporters of OPS, led by former Mayor Savitri Gopal, erected digital banners to greet the former Chief Minister. 

    However, on Tuesday morning, the banners put up near Thanjavur railway junction, Gandhiji Road were found damaged. In some of them, O Panneerselvam’s face was also found torn. Enraged by this, cadre of the AIADMK (PTA) gathered near the Thanjavur railway junction and staged a demonstration. 

    Former Mayor of Thanjavur Savitri Gopal, who led the protest, said her party would lodge a complaint with the police against the miscreants. Meanwhile, the Thanjavur town DSP Tamil Selvan who reached the demonstration spot, said that the AIADMK (PTA) had erected the banners without obtaining permission and asked them to disperse from the spot.
