    5 lakh robbed from petrol bunk staff, three held

    The Vishnukanchi police arrested three persons, including a petrol bunk employee, for robbing Rs 5 lakh from the manager of a petrol bunk and his wife when they were carrying the collection from the bunk to the bank, on a bike, on June 19.

    It is said that two of the assailants had followed the petrol bunk manager Prem Kumar and his wife. They had pushed down the couple from the bike they were riding, snatched the cash bag and escaped. Prem Kumar then lodged a complaint with the Vishnukanchi police. 
    During investigation, Vishnukanchi police suspected the role of an insider, who knew Prem Kumar’s routine. They monitored the activities of the petrol pump employees and grew suspicious about M Vijay (24) and kept a vigil on him.  On Sunday, Vijay is said to have gone on a trip to Mahabalipuram with two of his friends. 
    Police followed and caught them unaware and found the loot with them. His friends were identified as G Ganeshan (22) and P Naveen Kumar (20). 
    Police said that Vijay, who knew about the routine of Prem Kumar, had conspired along with his friends Ganeshan and Naveen Kumar, to rob the cash from Prem Kumar. “The youth have already spent Rs 50,000 and we have recovered the remaining amount,” added the police. 

    Trader loses 4 kg silver, cash to conman 

    A miscreant managed to divert the attention of a trader and rob him of 4 kg of silver and Rs  92, 600 here late on Saturday evening. The victim Shanmugarajan (42), on Saturday evening, started from Salem to Coimbatore by bus with 2.5 kg of silver anklets, 1.5 kg of silver bars and Rs 92,600. When he was climbing the stairs to reach a jewellery outlet at Coimbatore, a stranger standing in the way, suddenly told him there was an insect on his shirt. Hardly keeping an eye on the stranger, Shanmugarajan searched for it, keeping his bag down for a few seconds. Immediately,  the stranger escaped with the valuables and cash.
