There was no announcement from the Directorate of Medical Education as officials were awaiting a decision by the state government. “We need to give time to students to apply as well.

The students will still be unsure of which college to apply to. Though delayed, the commencement of classes will not be as late as was the case last year, when the colleges reopened by September,” said Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan.

“We have incorporated the prospectus with the two options and handed it over to the state government, which will hold discussions with Advocate General regarding this. We are yet to finalise a single procedure. We may or may not have to alter parts of the prospectus. However, until a decision is made, we cannot be sure of how the selection will be done. As we have to complete the admission process within August 30, as per the Medical Council of India’s (MCI’s) guidelines, we will ensure everything is done by then,” said Dr Edwin Joe, Director of Medical Education.
