Police, who reached the spot after being alerted by the public, found out that the couple had resorted to the extreme step due to fear of honour killing as the man was a Dalit and the girl a member of the BC community. Â
The man, who was identified as S Prakash, had already died by the time police came to the scene, while the girl was battling for life. The girl was immediately rushed to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial GH where she has been admitted to the ICU.Â
The body of Prakash was sent for an autopsy. Sources said that Prakash (21) was from Chithode in Erode district and the girl (17) a Class 11 student, was also from Erode. They had been in love for the past one year.Â
During investigations, cops recovered a letter written by the girl to Prakash in which she had stated that her parents were opposed to their relationship and were planning to kill Prakash. Meanwhile, police informed the parents of the couple in Erode. Â
According to the police, the couple had decided to settle in Tiruchy following opposition from the woman’s parents. As per plan, the woman boarded a train to Tiruchy from Erode on Sunday. Both met at the station around 6 30 am on Monday. Â
They spent some time at the G-Corner ground before going to the cremation ground, where they reportedly consumed poison
